About this list
Top-seller charts show the same giants every week. This page asks a different question: which games are picking up speed right now? Each game is compared with its own recent past, so a small game doubling its review pace ranks above a huge one holding steady.
How the ranking works
Every day we record how many new Steam reviews each tracked game received (all languages) and sample its number of players online at the same hour. We follow about 8,493 games: the most-reviewed titles on Steam plus recent releases.
A game's momentum compares its last 7 days of reviews with its average week over the 21 days before. Small numbers are damped on purpose: going from 2 to 10 reviews is +400% on paper but barely means anything, so a game needs at least 50 new reviews in the week to appear, and the score shrinks ratios built on tiny counts.
Launches get their own list, because a game that came out last week has no "before" to beat. If this week's reviews are much more negative than usual, we say so: a review bomb is momentum too, just not the kind you'd buy on.
Sales, free weekends, big patches and streamer hype all show up here. We don't try to guess the cause; the numbers under each game tell you what changed.
Player counts from before our own daily samples began come from SteamCharts.
Questions
What does trending mean here?
Faster growth than the game's own recent normal. A game with 50,000 reviews that gets the same 300 reviews a week as always is not trending. A game that usually gets 40 a week and just got 400 is.
How is this different from Steam's top sellers or most played?
Those charts rank by size, so they are dominated by the same big games. This list ranks by change, so smaller games that are taking off get a spot next to the giants.
How often is it updated?
Data is collected every hour, and each game is re-checked once a day. The review window moves forward a day at a time, so the list changes noticeably from one day to the next.
Why isn't a game I expected here?
Either it isn't growing faster than its own usual pace, it got fewer than 50 new reviews this week, or it isn't in the set we track (the most-reviewed Steam games and recent releases).
