About this list

Co-op horror games to play with friends this Halloween. Steam Scream Fest V, Steam's horror-themed sale event, runs Oct 26 – Nov 2. The picks come from 87 Steam games with a co-op category and Horror, Survival Horror or Psychological Horror among their ten most-voted player tags, each with at least 500 reviews at Mostly Positive or better. Every game also goes through the PvP check our recommender uses, so killer-versus-survivors games like Dead by Daylight are out, and so are joke horror tags, VR-only titles, demos and prologues. Games are ranked by the share of positive Steam reviews, weighted by how many reviews there are. Online versus same couch comes from Steam's co-op categories and player tags. A game that has both is listed under same couch.

Frequently asked

Why isn't Dead by Daylight on this list?

Steam lists it with an Online Co-op category, but four survivors play against a fifth player who is the killer. This list only has games where the whole group plays against the game, so asymmetric PvP horror is left out on purpose.

What counts as a horror game here?

A game qualifies when Horror, Survival Horror or Psychological Horror is among its ten most-voted Steam tags. Zombie co-op shooters like Left 4 Dead 2 count. A survival game with one scary cave usually doesn't, because players don't tag it as horror.

How many players do these games support?

Most are online co-op for two to four players, and a few go higher. Steam doesn't publish player counts as data, so check the store page before buying copies for the whole group.

How often is the list updated?

Once a day, from the same catalogue refresh as every other list on the site. New co-op horror releases appear once they pass 500 reviews at Mostly Positive or better.
